How to sell Canva templates: 7 steps from design to sales
Your Canva templates look great, they’re listed, and they still barely sell. Before redesigning them, look at how you present them. Canva itself offers thousands of free templates, so yours needs to make it clear who it’s for and what it helps them do. - ?Frequently asked questions about selling Canva templates
1Pick a specific customer, not “everyone”
“Instagram templates” gets lost in the crowd. “Instagram templates for nutritionists” speaks to a specific audience. Pick a profession or a situation, and build the whole pack around those people.
2Sell an outcome, not a page count
Your customer isn’t buying “30 templates.” They’re buying “a month of posts in one hour,” or “a client presentation that looks professional.” Put that outcome in the pack’s title.
3Show your templates in context
Show your templates filled in with real content, on a phone screen, as part of an Instagram feed. A blank preview makes people think about the work still ahead. A filled-in preview shows them the result.
4Offer a starter pack
Offer a small pack at a low price, or a free template in exchange for an email address. That lets customers try your work before choosing a full pack.
5Build a storefront that shows every pack
Whether you sell on Etsy, in your own store, or on a digital products platform, you need a page that shows all your packs at a glance, with their prices. Each pack should link to its purchase page.
6Show up where your customers search
Use Pinterest for people looking for ideas (“Instagram templates for coaches”), Instagram to show your templates in action, and your newsletter to stay in touch with buyers. Think about accounts that already reach your customers, too: a nutritionist followed by other nutritionists could be a great person to introduce your packs.
7Check what you’re allowed to sell
Your templates must be original designs. You can’t resell an existing Canva template as-is or sell individual assets from its library. Check the rights to any images and fonts you upload, too.
If your template includes Pro content, Canva requires you to sell it through a template link that lets buyers customize it in Canva, rather than as a file they download for use elsewhere. Creating that link requires a plan that includes the feature; Canva Free doesn’t offer it. Before selling, read Canva’s rules for products you sell.
Mistakes that hold back Canva template sales
- A pack “for everyone” that speaks to no one.
- Blank previews with no real content.
- A single place to buy, with no link pointing to it from anywhere else.
- Too many packs, with none of them featured.
Frequently asked questions about selling Canva templates
Can you sell Canva templates?
Yes, as long as you sell your own designs and follow the licenses for the assets you use. If you include Pro content, share the template through a Canva template link. Check those requirements before you start.
Where can I sell Canva templates?
On Etsy, in your own store, or on a digital products platform. What matters most is having one link that shows all your packs and that you can share anywhere.
How do I stand out from free templates?
With a specific customer and a clear outcome. Show how your pack meets the needs of one profession, with examples customers can adapt.
Do I need a big audience?
No. You need to reach the right customers: on Pinterest, in a group in your niche, or through the audience of a complementary business.
Where should I start?
Rewrite your main pack’s title around an outcome, update its previews to show it in use, then create your Partn page to showcase it.
